Its high resolution is what makes the Reverb stand apart from the crowd. You can use OpenXR which gives you a small performance boost.
The sim is optimized around WMR so the Reverb G2 does have another small but welcome advantage there compared to non-WMR headsets. Which means Microsoft Flight Sim has been built to work best with WMR headsets and technology.
MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2015 VR WINDOWS
One unique advantage of this headset is that it is a Windows Mixed Reality headset and WMR is Microsoft’s technology. Nothing groundbreaking but pretty much all VR headsets are in the same ballpark on these metrics. This is significantly higher than what any of the competing headsets have as you see in the following table. The Reverb G2 has a beautiful 2160×2160 screen for EACH eye. With all of this in mind, here are my top VR headset recommendations for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator. Tracking quality is also not that important since you won’t be jumping around in your cockpit. Things like hand controllers are completely irrelevant for flight sims since you would be using a HOTAS/ Joystick anyway. Comfortable enough to be worn for long flight sessions. What you need for MS Flight Sim is a headset that:
For example, the Index is a great VR headset but almost 40% of its price is the lighthouses and controllers which you don’t really need for MS Flight Sim or any flight sim for that matter. However, not all VR headsets are created equal. This combo of a VR + MS Flight Sim is without a doubt, the closest you can come to real life flight outside of an actual plane! When combined with a good, VR headset the sim truly comes to life. The technology it uses to simulate the entire planet in such detail, along with weather and other effects is truly remarkable. never did that with my home cockpit build. The 2020 Microsoft Flight Simulator is perhaps the most ambitious and revolutionary flight sim of our generation. It was awesome! But VR is so good that now I fly VFR as well. I just did an IFRil in the analog Cessna 172 tracking a VOR, captured the glide slope of the runway frequency and APR landed it on autopilot.
I can do everything in VR that I did with my home cockpit build. Once they implement hand tracking it will be as good as the real thing.except you can fly EVERY plane.not just the one you built at home. I have my trim and flaps on my yoke and good to go. you just turn the dials and knobs with your mouse while in VR. My only reason to not go VR at first was I like to fly IFR, and like you thought it would be cumbersome.
MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2015 VR FULL
I went from trackir to a full cockpit build with knobs and dials for the instruments, and 2 projectors to VR. Meantime my TrackIR does very nicely for me looking around both in and out of the cockpit, and the small piece of metal to reflect my head position is less than an ounce and doesn't block my vision for keyboard and other things (phone ringing, drinking coffee, etc.).Oh come on.you can't compare trackir to VR. When VR lets me reach my hand to the switches and knobs on the virtual panel, instead of having to occasionally look at the keyboard (mouse is very awkward and time consuming), and when it doesn't use a heavy contraption on my head, I might consider it. There are plenty of us remaining who don't mess with VR.
